5 years Twilight Dentifrice

This month, 14 March, it'll be 5 years ago since I created Twilight Dentifrice. I take this chance to tell you my history with Twilight Dentifrice.

In the following story there's one red thread, one main character, me. But I've changed through the years, grown. If I look back I see how my in game characters have grown with me. I've had a lot different characters on Habbo and on Flyff but there were 4 that stand out the most. I'll tell you their story, my story, our story. The story of Twilight Dentifrice.

When I was 14 years old I started to spend more time at my computer. One of the reasons was Habbo. Habbo was basically a big chat room with different rooms. The only difference with 'normal' chat rooms was that you could walk around in this one. It was one big hotel with a lot different rooms. Habbo Hotel. (Click here for an screenshot)
When I started playing I soon gained interest in 'mafias' on Habbo. It just seemed fun to be in one, to be part of a group. A girl asked me to join one and so I did.

There was no way to really do anything mafia-like on Habbo since all you could do was dance and wave but we were young and had a lot of imagination. We put black clothes on and we robbed banks by saying things such as *shoots banker down*, *throws grenade*, ...
When our mafia leader went on holidays she asked me if I could take the lead for the time being. I agreed and had a great time. It was really fun to lead the group and I invited a lot new players too. The mafia grew. When the original leader came back I didn't feel like following her orders anymore. I left the mafia to create my own mafia, most of the members of the other mafia followed me since they were used to my lead by then.

I created Maffia [NEO.S] (we use double f in dutch) in July 2006. Neo stood  for my name, Neocropain and S stood for Smoer, my in real best friend. The [ and ] stood for 'group'. Our mafia became a big family. I was the mother, I had a lot children, some boyfriends (...), uncles, brothers, sisters and even my own mother and father. We spend most of our time going to the theater dome to 'pull' other players their pants off. It mostly went like... *Pulls pants off* "Oh you got such nice underwear with hearts on!" and we'd laugh. We were just a bunch of bullies. Besides laughing at other players we blocked doorways. Back then on Habbo you couldn't run through other players,  so if we were standing at an entrance no one could enter that room (or part of the room). Sadly that lead to a permanent ban on my character Neocropain. That's how Maffia [NEO.S] ended.

My character had pigtails, a black sweater, black pants and black shoes. It was the maffia uniform so I didn't really bother changing it. Mafia [NEO.S] must have counted like 15 members.

A few names I remember:
Good Ghost, Lynn, Jikke (that kept changing from boy to girl, it took me a year to find out she was a girl in real life), Jimmy, iiCPrinces, Sjanhaai, Sean (Romeo), Doool, Brian
Parents: Baryl and Kim

Funny facts:
I created alt characters to function as my bodyguards. I just wanted to be sure to always have a bodyguard around me. No one, except Smoer, knew it was me playing on Flaak, the bodyguard.

While being banned I almost spend no energy in maintaining my group. A lot people were disappointed and I promised them I would restart the group if I would get my character back. When my character got unbanned I kept the promise and created Dentifrice. Smoer was at my side again.

Dentifrice was born on 11 April 2007. To me it's a memorable date. It's forever burned in my mind. Dentifrice is French for toothpaste. I saw it in my French word list while studying. I thought it sounded cool when pronounced  in English.

With Dentifrice we stopped with the childish 'mafia' stuff and started to block doorways more often. I'd get a lot bans but I didn't mind anymore. Two little guys joined Dentifrice, Daan and Luuuk. They were both pretty good with computer stuff and gave us programs that made us able to log into other characters after getting banned. They also gave us script and flood programs. The flood programs made us able to spam a lot of text by pressing on a single button and the script programs did... a lot various things (such as holding drinks in places you couldn't get drinks, which sounds very lame when I put it like this). Back then I created a lot different characters to be able to switch between them. Most were with Neocro but eventually I'd run out of ideas and created other names. Daleko became my main character when Neocropain got permanent banned again. Daleko means 'far away'. Other characters besides the Neocro ones were Novkovic, Neocopain (without R, copain means friend in French), Morricone, ...

I encouraged Dentifrice members to block often and get a lot of bans. The ranking in Dentifrice was even based on the amount of hours ban you had received. Moderators got to know us, players started to hate us and others started to look up to us. We didn't care much, we had a great time. When I quit Habbo I had about 14 permanent banned accounts and over 500 hours received ban. I was Queen of the Ban.

I met a lot of people back then, made a lot of friends. Most kids that played Habbo had issues in their real lives. Almost none of them weren't scarred. I felt on my place with them. I still stay in touch with a few of them. I even met some in real life!

When I wasn't busy getting banned I would spend my time in the Central Lobby (CL). Some rooms had their own community. This was one of them. Everyone would gather there almost every day and we would waste our time talking to each other.

When a friend told me about Flyff I quit Habbo and started to play Flyff.

Dentifrice had a uniform back then but it wasn't required to wear it. As leader I mostly had mine on though. The uniform was a black, grey or white T-shirt with Black sport shorts with an orange stripe and black slippers.

A few names I remember:
Sanne (my big sister), Arend and Rensie (CL 'leaders'), Max and Rosa, Chantal with her 'skinheads', Bas the sand piece, Sam and Paula who followed us later to Flyff, Sven my little brother, Noah, Greenland, Timo, Daaan (the pervert), Luuuk, Krensieboy, Theo, Angelo, ...

Funny facts:
At a certain moment we all used the same script program that made us able to use commands. The commands worked on everyone else who was using the same program. The commands could make someone whisper, say or shout something, give a drink with a self made up name (such as 'Moderator's blood'), walk to a certain spot, dance, wave, ... I really loved that program, mostly because we all had it on and bullied each other by sending commands all the time.

When I started to play Flyff I totally lost my 'wild side'. I didn't feel like breaking the rules anymore but simply enjoyed training on Flyff. I played mostly together with Smoer. We started thinking of making Dentifrice on Flyff as soon as we found out about the possibility to create a guild. Since we saw our transfer from Habbo to Flyff as a big step we decided to add something to the name. We played a lot 'The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess' on the Wii back then so we decided it would be 'Twilight Dentifrice'. On 14 March 2008 we had enough money to create Twilight Dentifrice.

At first the members would be Me, Smoer, Paula (Taboe) and Sam from Habbo and a few people we met on Flyff, such as Sven (DontMessWithME) and Nathalie. Later on David (Infinty), who became my permanent Ringmaster, joined.  And MrBored! Back then I didn't know MrBored would stick with me the following 4 years on Flyff.

Other people that joined later on were Fabio (Toro87), Robin (Thrym), Raen, Guy (NarakuBlade), Lizz (ShhImNotFs), ... There were other members too but this were the most active ones. Twilight Dentifrice wasn't that big the first year. We wouldn't really bother recruiting members either. We were fine with being a small group.

I would sometimes leave the guild to farm Clockworks but I didn't like being away from the guild. I really enjoyed being with everyone.

"We were not rich, overpowered or pro but... We were friends. We spend so many hours fun together. We talked about all kinds of stuff. We were what I wanted us to be. A good team." - With great power comes great responsibility

When I hit Hero, summer 2009, I got into a fight with some of the main members and quit Flyff for a while.

"When time passes by a group. There comes a moment where they decide to take their own paths. Some grabbing the hand of a friend, some going alone. All what remains are memories of what used to be, memories of a time when they were used to be one. And each of them would be able to smile back to that time, with diffrent reasons, and they'll feel no mercy for taking a new path. Cause life changes and they've changed, like the group changed into past."

I really thought Twilight Dentifrice would never return after this.

Funny fact:
Guild logo's on Flyff aren't very pretty. Me and Smoer managed to pick the most ugly one for Twilight Dentifrice. But there's a reason behind that. On Habbo orange and black were the basic colours for Dentifrice and we wanted to keep that. The brown and black from the Twilight Dentifrice guild leaned the closest to that.

It took me a while to be confident enough to lead Twilight Dentifrice again. I tried to join other guilds but never found one I wanted to stay in. I joined GearZ and met Dino there. He said he remembered TDF and wanted to restart it together with me. With Dino at my side I restarted Twilight Dentifrice on 10 April 2010. MrBored, Calle (BrokenSwordman) and Robin joined too. Later on Son (S0nG0Ku) joined too. (Screenshot April 2010)

TDF grew fast but died in less than a half year. I joined TenaciouS in September and was a co-lead there for a few months. I focused on keeping the guild chat alive and getting to know everyone. The original leaders Nico and Nath focused more on recruiting strong players and sieges. At the end of the year I didn't feel like being with them anymore but I didn't feel like going back to Twilight Dentifrice either. I created a new guild, supposedly with WhiteSebastian, named Accident.

Accident was a big accident. Sebastian did nothing for the guild and the members couldn't agree with each other. As long as I was around everyone was calm but as soon as I'd go offline they started to fight. It frustrated me and I longed for the peace I had known in Twilight Dentifrice. I kicked everyone out of Accident and returned to Twilight Dentifrice, alone. The ones that truly wanted to be with me, with TDF, came after me.

In December 2010 I restarted TDF once more. Twilight Dentifrice became stronger and bigger than ever before. Since Twilight Dentifrice was already around for a few years people recognized the name. For the first time I felt like Twilight Dentifrice was actually becoming a known guild. We didn't do any (serious) sieges or dungeons with the guild but we tried to do other things such as hide and seek. Mostly we would just end up hanging out on our TDF island though.

Flyff changed, it disappointed me. Autumn 2011 I finally quit Flyff. It was really tough without my dear TDF at first. It took me some time but I managed to leave TDF behind me. Although... I don't think TDF ever died, or ever will. As long as people remember, Twilight Dentifrice will exist.

Through the years I learned how to lead a guild. I tried my best to teach the members of Twilight Dentifrice how I saw things, how I saw the world. Most people seemed to like my view and that gave me confidence to be myself. To be who I am. Different and weird as I am.  I met a lot of different people and learned about their lives, their thoughts. TDF gave me a lot good times, taught me a lot but I also learned things the hard way. TDF has been part of my life. It meant and means a lot to me. I'll remember it forever.

Funny facts:
Me and Dino started to talk when I sold him a restat that dropped a lot in price right after I sold it to him.

And now?

TwilightDentifrice still exists! On Guild Wars 2 there is a guild called Twilight Dentifrice, lead by Aladdin. I'm not really involved with it and I don't play much Guild Wars anymore either but... There's still a Twilight Dentifrice! (Do I sound desperate now?)

Thank you for taking your time to read this wall of text. And most likely thank you for being part of Twilight Dentifrice. Words can't describe how much it meant to me.
